“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

Christmastime in the City

I just got back from my traditional Christmas Season visit to New York City and are my legs tired!.

For many years I have made this trip pretty much annually, usually with my dear friend and travel companion Jeanie Furtado, sometimes with additional friends or family members, just to take in the holiday sights and sounds and to get a little (only a little!) winter weather.

We generally catch a show or musical, watch the skaters at Rockefeller Center, and take a food tour of one of the many neighborhoods of this wonderfully diverse metropolis. I love New York, even for just a little while.

This year I got to check off an item on my travel bucket list: a visit to Coney Island. I always wanted to get to the iconic beach with its seashore and amusement parks. I hear you saying, “But Jolynn, it’s wintertime and the water’s freezing and everything’s closed.” And you’re right! Still, there was something wonderful watching the waves rush up onto the deserted beach and strolling past the dormant monsters of the midway.

Besides Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog’s was open! Yum!

There’s something very wonderful about a trip that you make every year, especially at this season of the year, knowing it will all be the same and yet it will all be different, too. I treasure the memories and I look forward to more trips for years to come.

Happy Holidays, Big Apple!
