“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

Ready for U.S. Passport Changes?

Congress passed an important piece of travel legislation nearly ten years ago.  The law, part of the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission, required passports for all U.S. citizens to travel to and from Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Millions got their 10-year passports as a result, and now they’re all about to expire. When all those people try to renew their passports applications will soar. Also, passports are about to change.

Passport renewal already takes about six weeks, and many nations require foreign passports to be valid for several months after your trip. Factor in the Real ID Act and other possible sources of delay and there may be a lot less time to renew before travel next year.
