“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

TravelHaven Journal — Japan Preview

I just got back from Japan where I was visiting my niece, Justine. She’s on her way back home today after spending a year living in Tokyo while she attended The Inter-University Center (IUC) for Japanese Language Studies.

Justine has been studying Japanese language and literature for over ten years now and has visited Japan four times, living there on her own for more than two years all told. Her IUC program finished at the end of May and she was kind enough to invite me to come over and travel with her to see some of her favorite places before she returned to the USA. Japan was someplace I’d wanted to visit for years and the opportunity to do so with someone who knows the country and the language well could not be passed up.

I’ll be posting a journal of our adventurers soon, but in the meantime, I thought my readers might like to look at the blog Justine wrote while she was there this past year. It’s called ‘winfailjapan’ and you can find it here.  Justine’s a very honest girl and she doesn’t sugarcoat anything, so be prepared.

I can’t wait to see her again when she visits here next month before going back to complete her PhD at Yale.
